Revamped hospital wards are open for business

The high dependency unit now also has private rooms and state-of-the-art ceiling mounted equipment which allows staff to access patients without having to move or disturb them.

Mr Graham, aged 81, said it was an ‘honour and a privilege’ to have been invited back.

Debby Horbury, matron of general surgery said: “The wards look fantastic and create an environment conducive to patient recovery.

John Rhodes, deputy director of estates and facilities at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust who was the project manager for the refurbishment, said : “The new model surgical wards have been completed to an extremely high standard.”
